Using Gua-Sha
Gua sha can help tone, firm the skin, and provide deep relaxation. Regular practice will maximize its benefits.
Tips for Proper Use of Gua Sha...
Skin Preparation
- Cleansing : Start by thoroughly cleansing your face to remove all traces of makeup, impurities and excess sebum.
- Applying an Oil or Serum : Apply a facial oil or hydrating serum to allow the gua sha to glide easily over the skin. This prevents irritation and maximizes the benefits of the massage.
Massage Techniques
Holding the Tool : Hold the gua sha at a 15 to 45 degree angle to your skin. The flat side of the stone should be in contact with your face.
- Neck : Start at the neck to stimulate lymphatic drainage. Place the stone under the chin, then slide it down towards the collarbone. Repeat this movement 3 to 5 times on each side of the neck.
- Jaw : Place the "V" part of the gua sha in the center of the chin and slide it along the jawline towards the ear. Repeat 3 to 5 times on each side.
- Cheeks : Use the flat side of the stone. Start near the nose and glide outward toward the ears, following the line of the cheekbones. Repeat 3-5 times.
- Eye Contour : Use the thinnest corner of the stone. Start under the eye, near the nose, and gently glide outward. Be careful not to press too hard, as the skin around the eyes is delicate. Repeat 3-5 times.
- Forehead : Slide the stone from the center of the forehead to the temples, then from the top of the forehead to the hairline. Repeat 3 to 5 times on each section.
Practical Advice
- Apply gentle pressure : Don't press too hard, the goal is to stimulate circulation without causing irritation.
- Take your time : A typical gua sha massage can last between 5 and 10 minutes. Take your time with each movement to achieve optimal results.
- Listen to your skin : If your skin becomes red or irritated, reduce pressure or frequency of use.
Gua Sha Maintenance
- Cleaning : After each use, wash your gua sha in warm water with a mild soap, then dry it well. You can also disinfect it with a little alcohol before storing it.
